Support Temporary Redistricting with Prop 50

Special Election - November 4, 2025!

California’s temporary redrawing of congressional districts will result in a gain of five House seats. This is in response to Texas’ bold power grab instigated by Trump.

WHAT IS PROP 50?
Full name: The Election Rigging Response Act
Purpose: This constitutional amendment would temporarily allow the state legislature to redraw California's congressional district maps for the 2026–2030 elections
When: Prop 50 will appear on a special election on Nov. 4, 2025
Why: Prop 50 is a response to Republican’s outrageous power grab in Texas. At President Trump’s request, the Texas’ legislature decided to redraw their congressional district maps mid-decade because they fear losing the House of Representatives in the 2026 midterm elections. With these redrawn maps Republicans plan to pick up five additional seats in the House. Congressional districts are normally redrawn every 10 years based on new census data. The Texas legislature had already redrawn a heavily gerrymandered map in 2020 which is currently being contested in the courts for “unconstitutional racial gerrymandering”.
Doesn’t CA have a commission for drawing non-partisan maps?: Yes, the California Citizens Redistricting Commission was established in 2010 to do just that. Prop 50 is a temporary emergency measure to neutralize Republican’s blatant power grab. Prop 50 states that maps will revert back to CCRC control after the 2030 election.
Isn’t this just more of the same? Letting politicians pick their voters instead of voters picking their politicians?: No, this is letting the voters decide whether they want to temporarily suspend the rules to forcefully fight back against a corrupt GOP. That’s the reason for this Nov. 2025 special election in California.

It’s 2025 and Action SF is still fighting for you! We are an all-volunteer group that works to activate voters, promote progressive values, and help Democrats win elections. We remain focused on affecting the most important elections in swing states and swing districts nationwide. We started with WISCONSIN, and won, and now it’s on to PENNSYLVANIA and VIRGINIA.

What’s at Stake in November 2025

The political direction of two critical states will be decided in the November elections. Virginia is the bellwether 2025 election that will reveal the political mood of the nation. Flipping the governorship from Republican to Democrat and holding the liberal majority in the state legislature will point towards our success in the 2026 midterms.

In Pennsylvania, maintaining a progressive supreme court is critical in combatting the GOP’s assault on free & fair elections. One of our central strategies is to support two outstanding grassroots groups that work in their communities to educate & mobilize voters.

Meet Our 2025 Grassroots Groups

For 2025 we have identified two exceptional groups working in these critical states where election outcomes will determine the political direction of Virginia and the judicial makeup of the Pennsylvania Supreme Court. These elections will directly affect voting rights, redistricting maps, challenges to free & fair election and countless important issues that are essential to citizens of these states and beyond. Each group has an outstanding track record in educating, registering and motivating new and potential voters. They are our “boots on the ground” and they work 365 days a year, listening to voters, supporting their community and driving new voters to the polls. All donations go directly to the two groups through ActBlue. Action SF receives no part of the contribution, we are an all volunteer organization. Please join us in supporting their work!

New Virginia Majority (NVM) is led by a diverse and committed group of people who organize year-round for racial, economic, and environmental justice through political education, mass-scale voter outreach and intensive leadership development. They support leaders who work to establish redistricting criteria with careful protections for communities of interest and partisan neutrality.

In 2024, PA Stands Up spearheaded a major effort with dozens of partner organizations around the state to ensure that every vote was counted. All of their chapters have had direct impacts on keeping county drop boxes open for mail-in voters, pushing for counties to utilize more resources for faster count and even supplying food to vote counters on election nights!

Virginia’s 2025 November 4th's election will determine whether Democrats or Republicans control the governorship and the legislature of this purple state, the only Southern State to maintain access to abortion rights. Control of these key political positions is the best way for Democrats to counter the GOP assault on free & fair elections. Our strategy is to support a very effective grassroots group called New Virginia Majority. They organize year-round for racial, economic, and environmental justice through political education, mass-scale voter outreach & mobilization, and intensive leadership development. With their help, we will elect Abigail Spanberger as governor and preserve the progressive legislature.

Why Grassroots Groups?

In today’s political environment, national elections turn on the outcomes of a very few battleground states, where winners & losers are decided by fractions of a point. Voter turnout is the key to winning these races and dollar for dollar, we believe grassroots organizing is the most efficient and effective way to increase Democratic voter turnout. When local grassroots groups reach out to non-voters in their communities – young people, people of color, and those who feel left out of the process – they educate and inspire potential voters to understand they can make a huge difference with their vote.

Because we believe in the power of grassroots organizing, each election cycle Action SF does the research to identify great groups in critical swing states and districts, and then we reach out to you -- our extended network of friends, neighbors and colleagues – and ask you to support their work by donating through our Grassroots Fund.
